Congrats on your new device! This quick guide walks you through setting up Trezor Suite, securing your recovery, and getting comfortable sending and receiving crypto safely.
Unbox your Trezor device and connect it to your computer using the supplied cable. Visit the official Trezor Suite website or download the desktop application. When you launch the app for the first time, follow the on-screen prompts to initialize your device. You will confirm fingerprint-like prompts on the hardware itself to ensure the displayed recovery words are genuine and have not been intercepted.
Important: always download Trezor Suite from the official source. Never follow links from unsolicited emails or social media. The hardware wallet gives you an isolated environment for signing transactions; pairing it with the official Suite maintains that security.
Your recovery seed (a list of words) is the only way to recover funds if the device is lost or damaged. When the device generates your seed, write it down exactly as shown, in the correct order. Use the included card or a separate metal backup if you want extra durability against fire, water, or physical wear.
If possible, create multiple physical backups and store them in different secure locations (for example, one at home in a safe and one in a bank deposit box). Consider using a metal backup solution for long-term durability.
Trezor Suite presents a clear dashboard showing portfolio balances, recent transactions, and connected accounts. You can add multiple accounts for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other supported coins. Each account is derived from the same seed but keeps balances and transactions separate for convenience.
Use the Receive tab to generate addresses for incoming funds. Always confirm the address shown in Trezor Suite matches the address on your device screen before sharing it with a sender — the hardware display is the final authority.
To send funds, create a new transaction in Trezor Suite and confirm details on your device. The device displays the recipient address, amount, and fees. These visual confirmations protect you against malware that could attempt to modify transaction details on your computer.
Trezor regularly releases firmware updates that add features and security improvements. Trezor Suite will notify you when an update is available. Only update firmware when connected directly to the official Suite and after verifying the update prompt on your device.
Firmware updates are signed by Trezor. The device will show cryptographic confirmation when the update package is authentic. If anything looks suspicious, disconnect and check official Trezor channels for announcements before proceeding.
Power users can enable a passphrase on top of the recovery seed to create an extra layer called a "hidden wallet." This passphrase functions as a 25th word and drastically increases security if used carefully. Remember: losing the passphrase is equivalent to losing access to that hidden wallet.
Coin control lets you choose which UTXOs to spend on transactions (useful for privacy and fee optimisation). Trezor Suite exposes these controls for supported coins — use them deliberately and only if you understand the implications.
If Suite does not detect your device, try a different USB cable or port and ensure you have the latest Suite version. For stuck updates, follow the recovery instructions from Trezor’s official documentation. If you suspect your device is compromised, move funds to a new wallet after doing a full recovery from your seed on a known-clean device.
